Today’s topic is one I used to feel uneasy about, but I’m starting to see it as part of the growth journey. We’re talking about backsliding. It can be so disheartening to feel like you’re making great strides forward, only to catch yourself slipping back into old patterns or habits you thought you’d left behind. But do we ever truly “get past” something? Or is it more about finding ways to integrate these challenging experiences and lessons into the life we’re consciously creating? We’ll also explore other important themes, like holding space for ourselves, the role of integration, and embracing the full spectrum of our emotions.

I'm excited to bring back a close brother who has been a big part of my healing journey, Cameron Nagashima. Today, we delved into the profound concepts of creating and holding safe spaces. With the diverse modalities we both practice and have experienced, we approach these essential aspects of the healing process in many ways. But what do "creating safe spaces" and "holding space" truly mean? We often talk about how we establish and maintain these spaces, but it ultimately boils down to a feeling. Do you feel secure and supported in the environment you're in, allowing you to engage in the deep work you need to do? True healing begins when this sense of safety is genuinely felt. Creating a safe space involves more than just physical surroundings; it encompasses emotional and psychological dimensions, where one can express themselves without fear or judgment. Holding space is about being present and offering unconditional support, ensuring that the person feels valued and heard. As we explore these concepts, Cameron and I reflect on our practices and experiences. We aim to foster environments where healing can flourish, grounded in the assurance that you are safe and held. It's within these nurturing spaces that the transformative journey of healing begins.

Join us on today's episode as we welcome back Jason Donaldson to delve into the world of meditation. In our conversation, we aim to demystify this practice that often feels overwhelming or inaccessible. There are countless approaches to meditation, but many of us find ourselves trapped in our own heads, unsure of where to begin. Together, we explore the importance of discovering an approach that resonates with you personally, rather than adhering to someone else's prescribed method. It's about embracing meditation in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to your own journey, rather than conforming to preconceived notions. However, we also acknowledge the potential pitfalls of our peaceful practices. While meditation can offer profound benefits, there's a danger of using it as a means of escape or avoidance. Finding balance is key—a balance that's unique to each individual and their specific goals. I was sitting in a meditation recently and a statement popped in my head. "You realize that you've benefited from sexism, racism & separatism among other things, and in some ways you've participated in it." That was a very hard thing for me to understand about myself. The Hero's Journey is a fantastic archetypical story that shows up throughout life, but has been portrayed in stories from books to movie screens for as long as we can see. But don't forget that you're living a hero's journey. Just because most people wouldn't pay to see whether or not you decide to answer the life changing call to take a new job or to start a new relationship, doesn't mean they aren't pivotal points to the person living the life. So today, Peter Bolland is joining me again to share his insights in the Hero's Journey. We walk through the 3 main stages and overlay ancient stories, pop culture and our own personal experiences to show how you could utilize this as a tool. This subject spurred a lot of side tangents, which allowed us to work around the idea of trickster energy, reincarnation and what role you may play in someone else's Hero's Journey. I love having Peter on. He always leaves with with so much to marinate on.

Plants and fungus seem to have a symbiotic way of supporting us in our journey. From flower essences to tinctures, herbs fresh or dry, we can draw on these beings to help us up or down regulate our systems. But if you consciously connect to a plant, can the trust and knowledge that you've cultivated with it, allow that plant to help you in ways it's not "supposed to?" What does consciously connecting to something even mean? Katya is here to break down this concept and to help us understand the beauty that can happen when we interact in life in this way. Katya also recommends herbs to help support our emotions and organs.

Our body is extremely intelligent, constantly sending us messages and signals, even if we aren't aware of them. Finding ways to listen to your body and these signals can be hard if you've grown up in a culture or society that doesn't teach us how to listen to or even be aware of them. A lot of us have a hard time understanding and holding space for ourselves when strong emotions or bodily sensations arise. This is why I love people like Ben Dorfman. Ben is an author and self proclaimed healer masquerading as an acupuncturist. In todays chat we discuss Ben's book, The Highly Intelligent Body, and his personal healing journey with depression. Many beautiful topics were sparked from Ben's book and through discovering more about his work. A few take aways for me from our conversation revolved around remembering, or re-membering. As we find things that we are excited about in life, are we discovering them for the first time, or are we remembering them from a previous life and rediscovering a hidden passion? And through that process of remembering, are we re-membering ourselves? Putting ourselves, our journey, our spiritual being back together? We also speak to non sexual intimacy and how every person in your life can hold a level of intimacy with you, and you with them, that is completely unique to that human and your relationship with them. If we aren't listening to our bodies, we could be ignoring one of the most important tools in our tool kit. Journey with Ben and I as we discuss your Highly Intelligent Body.

I love when new information comes in to challenge my teachings or the current narrative in my mind and Yogi Aaron is just that kind of guy. Aaron has spent 30 plus years studying the ancient teachings of yoga as well as modern and scientific practices that promote pain-free living on all levels of self — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Through this journey, Aaron has developed a new philosophy of practicing yoga called Applied Yoga Anatomy Muscle Activation. This practice teaches us to stop stretching, because stretching may be causing more problems than it is helping. So how do we integrate this new information, as a teacher and as a practitioner? That's where the real journey happens. How can you take potentially contradictory knowledge to what you have been taught and practicing, to see how, or if, you can integrate it into your practice? In todays exchange, Aaron talks to us about why stretching is bad for you and how we can shift the paradigm of stretching in yoga to focus more on the activation of the agonist or contracting muscle, rather than the lengthening of the antagonist or muscle that is being lengthened. This was a very informative conversation for me that has left me a lot to marinate on.

Summer is beautiful time in the PNW. And with that lovely weather, comes outdoor events! Today I am talking with Camo Lionheart and Kylee Gies about their upcoming event, Mandala: Tending to our inner life-cycles. This is the second year that Camo and Kylee have teamed up for an all day, outdoor healing offering and I'm honored to again be a part of it. This conversation is a snapshot of what will be spoken about or worked through within the safety of this all day event. We will spend this time introducing and expanding on some of the concepts and mindsets we are presenting and working towards within this offering. Grief surfing and grief composting are 2 very intriguing concepts that were just introduced to me through this talk, and will more than likely be revisited as a topic of it's own show. Behavior activation, expression is the opposite of depression & viewing challenges and obstacles as opportunities are also avenues that we explore in this talk. Community, or common unity is important to us as humans and to our growth as a humanity. Join us as we traverse this path.

Breaking down the word intimacy into 3 words, into me see, has helped me to really understand what this word or idea means. There is a lot of honesty and vulnerability that goes along with this aspect of interpersonal relationships, which can make it hard for us to fully step into and embrace intimacy. Natalie Vires is joining me to talk about creating empowerment through intimacy. With the question; Do you feel safe living your humanity? And the statement; If you feel disempowered, you have power to claim, we frame the honesty that is needed to explore and embrace intimacy. We talk about Natalie's podcast and her desire of having awkward conversations, so we can normalize all aspects of our humanity. We discuss the impact of porn on intimacy and how generations of humans have been exposed to practices that may be disguised as intimate, but are actually aggressive and potentially dehumanizing. But with Natalie's work, she is helping to empower her clients to be as firm in their No as they are in their Yes. We talk about Natalie's course offerings and how she is creating safety around intimacy through knowledge of self and embodiment practices. There is a lot to unpack from this conversation. I greatly appreciate Natalie's work and ability to bring potentially awkward conversations to the forefront.

When we feel safe, we can learn. That is one of the most beautiful statements I've heard in a long time. Tara is an integrative body worker and soul retrieval mentor specializing in MNRI. She found MNRI through her time as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) helping children and adults find the most direct and impactful ways to communicate both with their own bodies and with the world around them. Which is where a lot of our conversation came back to today. Can we hold space and meet other humans in a place that they feel safe & comfortable so real communication can happen, or do we force people to meet us on our terms? That's a very intriguing thought. Working with neurodivergent humans from a young age, Tara has very interesting perspectives around this approach. The Vagus Nerve, one of my favorite subjects to learn about comes up; also speaking to the reflex system & the pattern making brain. We also talk about the use of the term spectrum and no longer using person first language when referring to an autistic person. We are under-stimulated in an over-stimulated world. We all have intuition. Some may be able to naturally feel it more than others, but we all have it and we have the ability to strengthen it. Seph Dietlin is a gifted healer who practices many modalities. One of those is channeling the Angels that support him in life. Today we dive deep into the metaphysical world to explore the gifts that humans can possess when we can quiet our mind and listen to the universe that is speaking to us. I talk with Seph about the messages he receives and how this impacts him and the way he approaches life. We speak to the concept of fighting the linear nature of the human mind and how, collectively, we are starting to move away from this type of thinking. Seph shares with us a message that his Angels has been sharing with him about the New Earth Prophecy. We spend a bit of time on this, as he shares how we can ready ourselves for this shift in consciousness. We also move through the idea that energetic beings are currently occupying this planet, that we cannot see and ideas of the collective belief. Music & sound touches our soul in ways we can and can't explain. Today I'm talking a man who's moved many with the music that he makes, Allen Stone. Allen is a captivating musician and has been making music and touring for over a decade. During our talk, we explore the ego's role in being an entertainer and how to honor that part of ourself, but not let it take over. The ego is a very important part of us, but we work to find the balance of when and where the ego is needed. We may need the ego to give us the courage to step on a stage and feel that we have something to say, or contribute. But with that, we also need to be able to get out of our own ways and let the divine in. One of my favorite stories Allen shares is the saga of the hot boot and how the universe conspired in his favor to help him meet his wife. In todays world, we can disconnect and/ or disassociate without knowing we are doing it. We may even use technology to feign the attempt at staying connected, but what leads to the feelings of disconnection? Why does the individual feel they can no longer connect or feel a connection? Today I'm talking with Austin Webber about his journey with this state of being. Austin shares about the injury that lead to his disassociation to his body, which lead to the prescription that lead to his disassociation to self. This is an all too familiar story in the states. But how do you reconnect? We talk about the importance of video games on his journey back as well as body movement. Joseph Campbell's work with the hero's journey and self actualization come up a bit in the talk as well. Connection is fundamental for us as humans, so why are so many of us disconnecting? Is the way society is made up, leading to our disconnection?

Knowledge of self is a phrase that has been in the peripheral of my life for years. I can remember perking up when I heard it in songs or conversations, but never really knew what to do with it. Well, the idea of knowledge of self is very alive in me right now. Mainly in the realization that I had a severe lack of self knowledge, or maybe a misunderstanding of what it really meant. Camo has been on the show multiple times and is an amazing person to share space with on this subject. I loved all aspects of this conversation, but I was very excited about Camo's reframing the word "trigger" into "portal". We all have been taught throughout our lives, but maybe not all of us see ourselves as teachers. Teaching is an art form, and if you haven't given yourself time to develop your art, it may seem cumbersome and awkward. Today I'm talking with Teague Parker, founder of Improv for Wellness, about the different philosophies and approaches to teaching that we see on a mass scale. Some of the best teachers that I've had in my life encouraged me to ask questions and if they didn't know the answer, we would find it together. We talk about the difference between didactic and mimetic learning, the public perception of what it means to be a teacher/ educator, ways the school system can be adjusted to adapt to current times and how we can better support our teachers. We love and respect our educators, but we want to emphasize the message that we are all teachers or educators in our own right. JMS #81 - Choosing Life: A Discussion About Alcoholism, Depression & Low Self-Esteem w/ Blue Andrews
Today, Blue and I are having an open and honest conversation about our struggles with alcohol, depression & low self-esteem. Blue recently wrote a memoir talking about his journey, which serves as the impetus for our chat. Alcohol and unstable emotions seem to go hand in hand. We may not even realize how unstable we are until something big happens to bring our volatility into perspective. In this vulnerable and honest podcast, we dive into Blue's journey through recovery, how alcohol can cause emotional stunting, how to humanize our emotions, how we can feel good without external stimuli and much more. We also dive into Blue's website and continuation of his book, CreedsLiving.com. CREEDS is an acronym meaning Connection, Reflection, Expression, Exercise, Diet & Sleep and gives people suffering from alcoholism another outlet to find help and support. I deeply appreciate Blue and his openness to discuss his journey.

Having a non-parental mentor has enriched my life in the most beautiful of ways. But it's important to find the right mentor or leader, who has your best interests in mind. Jeff Morgan was my first mentor and the first example of a well rounded leader that I had witnessed. Today I'm talking with Jeff about what responsible mentoring and leadership looks like. When you find someone who wants to mentor you, or you want to be mentored by, ask yourself, does this person have your best interests in mind, or are they fueling their ego by trying to create a mini version of themselves. We have a lot of examples of shadow leaders in the world right now, but that doesn't mean we all need to follow that path. The right mentor/ leader is like a life teacher, they know when to add information or back off to help guide you towards your mutual goals. This is a big test of the ego for all parts. To be mentored, we need to put our ego's aside to accept the new information. To be a mentor, you need to be aware of what it's like to be looked up to. Danica Connors is back to share her wisdom around Wiccan practices and celebrations. In todays talk, we are going through the traditions and practices that encompass Winter Solstice and Yule. We will explore many of the Yule and Solstice rituals to see how Christmas has adapted, or taken these practices for its own use. From the lighting and decorating of the tree to mistletoe and milk and cookies, all of these practices have deep roots in Wiccan rituals. But let's not forget about the Deities and Spirits. Many of these rituals are practiced to honor or appease them. One of my favorites moments during this talk is the connection between Odin, the All Father, and Santa Claus, the Father of Christmas. At the end, Danica gives us a simple set of rituals that we can practice to honor these holidays in the ways they once were.

We are all impacted by death throughout our lives, and eventually we will face it ourselves. Today I'm welcoming back Allison "Frankie" Danis to help me unpack the recent passing of one of the most impactful humans in my life, my mom. Allison is a Death Doula and Funeral Director, and has a very intimate understanding of this process from both the compassionate side and the logistical side. Death can be fearful and confusing, but it can also be beautiful and tender. From the logistics side, it can be crippling. Allison takes some time toward the end of the talk to walk us through how we can prepare now, for our future death. We don't always know when we're die, but we know it's going to happen eventually. Are you ready to go? Can you do something now to prepare? Let's find out.

Traumas are frightening, often life-threatening, or violent events that can happen to any or all members of the family. Today I am talking with Susan Pullen, founder of True Radiance Healing Arts in Edmonds, about how we can unpack and understand family trauma. But sometimes it's not only our current family trauma that we are working with, we also have inherited family trauma to look at. This can be a lot, so I'm very happy to talk with Susan about the different help and approaches that are available to us. From there we pivot to exploring the importance of our dreams and how we can find meaning in the smallest details.

Mariko is one of my favorite people to have deep conversations with. She challenges me on my stance and has an ability to approach subjects from a different angle, which offers the beauty of new perspectives. Today we are talking about a few subjects that have been on my heart lately, the perception of a universal common sense and the inability to see that some truths exist to the individual, but maybe not the masses. Common sense can be based on your culture, the region your from or the household you were raised in. My goal is never to change your mind, but to show that there are different ways to approach situations.
A few years ago I was talking to my Dad, complaining that no-one in the new area of the world I moved to had any common sense. My Dad told me that my assumption of a combined common sense showed my lack of common sense. And so started my rumination of this topic.

With our holiday season approaching, it's good to know where some of these traditions came from, or at least where we can trace them back to. Today I am talking with a return guest and resident Pagan specialist, Danica Connors. Danica is going to help us understand Samhain, the rituals that surround it and how it has influenced Halloween and other holidays. When we look at the religious holidays that we celebrate today, compared to Pagan holidays, we can see what was taken and changed to adapt to the continued religious colonization. In general, this is a great metaphysical conversation. We also find our way to the concept of re-memebering. Danica is an amazing resource and her passion shines through in this conversation.

Craniosacral Therapy is a beautiful healing modality utilizing our subtle energies to help us balance our body and mind. Today, we are talking with Craniosacral Therapist, Hilary to bring a clearer understanding on how this style of healing can help you, or maybe even your children. Hilary has been practicing CST for close to 12 years and has a deep working knowledge of this practice. In our conversation we move through the differences between "intense" work and "subtle" work, how to utilize still points and what a touch positive environment may look like. We also discuss how the verbiage we use during our sessions can effect our clients. This is a great talk about healing modalities and where we feel life is moving.

Today we are going to talk with Justin about how he came up with this specific compound and how he is getting the word out. With more and more "established" institutes like John Hopkins, University of Michigan and the MAPS program verifying what a lot of us have already figured out, and plant medicines being decriminalized around the US, the full spectrum use of these medicines are still being discovered. Pauline has a very intimate relationship with this subject, having lost 3 of her family members to suicide. This is a beautifully explorative conversation revolving around our spiritual ideas and practical applications of practices to help us become more open and vulnerable to one another. We move through ideas about stepping into your adulthood, the hope and love of the new generation as well as exploring Aykanna's new single "Tear Me Up", that was released on Sept 16th. With breath work, meditation and a litany of other practices, we can work with our nervous system to help regulate our emotional states. The quote "it's not that the person wants to die, it's that they don't know how to live" is the driver for this conversation. As we continue our talks about suicide awareness and prevention, I welcome back clinical therapist and my close friend, Chris Pugh. Today Chris and I are looking at some of the potential societal stressors and triggers that may cause suicidal thoughts or actions and how we can address these concerns. The statement "I'm fine" comes up a bit today, which I am a guilty of using. "I'm fine" is a trigger statement and should be explored and elaborated on. The mind is a beautiful thing. It loves to think and solve problems. But when it's our mind that we need to help, can the mind really help the mind, or do we get caught in a loop and drive ourselves deeper into our darkness? There is help to be had if we are vulnerable enough to ask for it. Your life is worth living.

September is Suicide Awareness month. So all of this month, I'll be interviewing people who have a relationship with this subject in some capacity. We start by talking with Melissa Barasona. Melissa is passionate about mental health awareness and suicide prevention. She joins us with a masters in teaching, which gives her front line experience in helping our youth with these subjects. Part of our goal with todays talk is to normalize conversations around suicide and mental health, as well as to raise awareness that this is a more common thought pattern than we may have believed. Through our chat today, we look at how we can help in these situations. Whether we are the parent, friend, sibling or whatever role you play in this situation, there are things we can do to help deescalate the situation, or find the right people who can help. From the false narratives that we live to the traumas we have to overcome, we are all healing from something. Leo Russell is back on the show to talk about her newest book "Yes, That White Woman Wants Your Baby; Stories From the Field of Social Work. As you may be able to tell from the title, this book is taking a hard and honest look at our Social Workers and the fields that they operate in. Leo's writing style has a way of blending atrocities and brutal honesty with a dash of humor. Through the natural discussion about her book, we transition into talks about our current government assistance programs and whether or not they are giving us an opportunity for a positive outcome. There can be a lot of stigmas revolving around CPS, Welfare and other social services. Sometimes when we find ourselves on the receiving end of these programs we can feel outcasted, ostracized, or even judged by those who are chosen to monitor us; even socially ousted from families or friend groups. These government systems are set up to help those in need, but are they actually helping, or just deepening the divide between the haves and the have nots?

Grief can manifest itself in many different ways. It is typically associated with death or loss, but the loss can be anything that is important to you. Today, I'm talking with Carmen Loeffler. Carmen experienced the sudden loss of her husband at the age of 32. As devastating as that has been, Carmen has turned this pain into her calling, becoming a grief coach and committing to helping others experience their grief. Some important questions and considerations come up during this topic; How strong is your support system? Is grief an eldering process? Why me, or why not me? If you commit to love, you commit to loss.
Maybe we can view grief as and opening, instead of a closing. Hopefully this conversation can give you another perspective on how to sit with and maybe appreciate the grief that is with you.

I have my dear friend, energetic mentor and owner of The Anam Cara Healing Center in Spokane, Hannah Talbot back for a 2 part series about our 7 Chakra system. Hannah has led countless workshops and trainings on this subject, so I'm excited for her to share her knowledge on our energetic system and how to use this as a road map for understanding our body, mind and spirit at any point in our life. In this first episode, we go through our Root, Sacral, Solarplexus and Heart Chakras, exploring ways to up and down regulate these energy centers to find balance and equanimity within yourself. One thing to keep front of mind is that once we find "balance" within an energy center, doesn't mean that it stays balanced. But creating the opportunity for awareness and observance may give us the ability to see when and where these centers need attention. We all have subtle energies moving through our bodies. Can you quiet your mind enough to listen to the information that is being created by you or shared with you? Let's find out.

As exciting as these medicines can be, we need to take our time, educate ourselves and respect where the knowledge came from. There is a lot of help these meds can offer, but using them responsibly, with care and intention will be the key to working with them and not just "taking" them. But with all of the money that was made off of cannabis, will the the tax collectors get caught up in the business model, forgetting about the "awakening" effects of these meds? Suzanne has been practicing Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga for over 40 years. In todays conversation, we tap into her knowledge and explore the inner workings of this ancient practice. Suzanne explains the 3 different Dosha types, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, and what these look like when they are in balance and out of balance. As we move through this topic and dance around other spiritual practices, we share different rituals that we use to help us bring our bodies and lives back into balance. The idea of balance comes up a lot in our spiritual practices. Too much dedication to your practice can make you rigid, while not enough can leave you listless and ungrounded. There are many ways to help us find this illusive balance. Here is how Ayurveda can help.

Today, I am welcoming back my good friend and meditation mentor, Thang Nguyen. Thang is coming back from a Vipassana meditation retreat in California and stoped by to talk about his experience. Vipassana, which means "to see things as the are," is a type of meditation that was rediscovered by Buddha over 2500 years ago and was taught by him as a universal remedy for universal ills. Thang introduced this meditation technique to me about 6 years ago and it has been an integral part in my healing process. Todays topics include why being more conscious can be more exhausting to the brain, why killing the ego may not be the best course of action and a deep dive into Vipassana.

Hannah is a ray of light and a joy to talk to. It's the season for a lot of things right now, but the season I want to talk about is Manifesting. Winter is a great time of the year to look at how your current year has been and to look forward towards the next year. What do you want to call in? What are your goals? Hannah takes some time to explain what manifesting is and some of the practices around it. This subject can also be a trigger for some people. Feelings of low self-worth and the trauma that we've experienced through life can sometimes keep us from feeling that manifesting can be something that "I" can do. Well, shut that story down! You are worthy and manifesting is for all of us.

Suzanne Hite is one of my go to's for any anatomy questions. I was happy to steal some time with her while she's finishing up her Physical Therapists Assistant's degree. In today's conversation we unpack some of the common anatomical yoga cues you'll hear at an Asana based Yoga studio. But one of the things I love about Suzanne, besides her knowledge, is her humor. And I love an amusing, knowledge based conversation.

Human Design and Bitcoin share a commonality in my life, I have a desire to understand them, but they are just a little outside of my grasp. Enter Lindsay Love. Lindsay is a Human Design reader, singer/ song writer and one fourth of the band Jaws of Brooklyn. Today, Lindsay is here to talk about Human Design and how this divinity tool can help you understand YOU and why you act or react the way that you do. She shares a bit of history on the origins of this modality and takes me through a reading of my own Human Design chart. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and hope you do as well.

Education has been a hot button issue for a while now, but with our recent pandemic, maybe it's finally getting the spotlight it so rightfully deserves. In todays conversation, I am sitting with teacher and passionate educator, Hannah Asher. We start the conversation by defining the terms "teaching" and "learning." Although you can find these terms in the dictionary, words like these are very subjective and should be self defined. We discuss some of the current practices for teaching and learning and explore newer ideas that the public and private sector are now trying. This podcast is not just for the teachers and students out there. We are all teachers and students in our own rights. This knowledge is universal and beneficial for all.

"When the student is ready, the teacher appears." That pretty much sums up the beginning of my relationship with Holli West. I was introduced to Holli a couple years ago and have since been working with her as a medium and teacher to help develop my gifts and deepen my spiritual knowledge. In todays conversation we talk about how to live and work with your ego and how important those relationships are. We chat about setting boundaries in your spiritual practice and how to work with your ancestors. One of my favorite quotes from this episode was "tears are your fear letting go." I adore Holli as a human, as a spiritual guide and as a mentor. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Well, my information cup is full! Today on the show, we are talking with herbalist, Wiccan practitioner and herbalist, Danica Connors. I have to admit, my knowledge of Wiccan rituals and culture is slim to none, but that's why I wanted to get Danica on. She takes us through some of her Wiccan practices, acknowledging the many different lineages and ways that these practices can be observed. Towards the end we talk about how she intertwines her Wiccan practice with her Herbal knowledge and how you can get ready and honor the next Wiccan holiday, Yule.

Passion shows itself in many different ways. Today, I am talking to Jordan Lydia Verla, a person who is very passionate about her life, her practices and her yoga. In this episode, we are taking a step into understanding the practice of competitive yoga and how that links to the 84 pose Ghosh practice. Jordan is very knowledgable in this form of yoga and shares her wisdom of the lineage, helping me understand some of the apprehensions and misguided thoughts I had with yoga as a competition. Some of my highlights from this talk are listening to Jordan's journey with her healing process and how these modalities may be able to help you. This episode is loaded with little gems of knowledge that have given me a lot to think about and desires to find places in my life to action them.

Sharlean Windus is a fountain of knowledge. Her understanding of these divination tools and her ability to make the information approachable is very refreshing. Today we are diving into these intuitive practices to see how they can act as a guide in your life. From helping to make impactful decisions, to seeing how to approach a situation, divination tools can be an important ally. Here is a conversation about few of them.

Monica Fischer is a creating machine! She holds Women's Circles, is a Reiki Master, a Sound Healer, an Artist, a Muralist and the hats keep stacking up. In todays conversation, we talk about her path to discovering many of these gifts as well as her path with grief. Grief is a very important subject. I feel the more ways we hear about processing grief, the more equipped we will be when it presents itself. I am inspired by this woman on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy the conversation.
~Obeisance~
"There are as many ways to grieve as there are people in the world." This is one of the truest quotes I have ever heard. Grief can be crippling and dirty and horrible. But when we can find healthy ways to process sates of being, like grief, the outcome can be ironically beautiful. Since the day I met Kylee, she has been open about her story, her processing and her journey. I have left every conversation we've had feeling unintentionally inspired just knowing how strong of a human she is. Today we will talk with Kylee about her journey with grief and the inspiration she has found to deepen her healing journey.

Tom is my go to for business and coaching advice. He's a successful entrepreneur, who is extremely knowledgable and has an ability to break down seemingly difficult business concepts to make them digestible by the commoner...Me... In todays conversation we talk strategies on how to develop your business ideas as well as different avenues for gaining knowledge in your field. Sometimes it's a class, a YouTube video or maybe it's being vulnerable enough to ask a friend. From there we move to building your brand and how to maintain your momentum. Putting yourself out there can feel strange to some of us, but it's a necessary evil when you're on your own. There are ways to do this with honor and integrity. Here are a few tips to get you started.

JMS #24 - Improv for Wellness: A unique approach to healing w/ Teague Parker
Meeting Teague Parker was like meeting an actualization moment in real time. He is an inspiring human that is utilizing his skills and passions to develop new ways to help humanity. We start off by diving into one of my favorite topics, Gnosis and Gnowing; that deep understanding that we sometimes have, but can't explain. Healing is a long journey, but through that process we learn a lot about ourselves and how strong we really are. We talk about the importance of developing yourself and fully embracing your emotions. Emotions are always with us, so knowing how to use them properly is part of that healthy healing process. Teague also introduces me to a new term that I love called, "steel-manning." I love this conversation and walked away feeling inspired and hopeful. I hope you can too.

Comedy laced knowledge is one of my favorite ways to ingest information. That's one of the reasons why I seek out Katy's wisdom, she is knowledgable and hilarious! In our conversational journey today we talk nutrition, CrossFit and Yoga. I love good, unbiased nutritional info. The understandings and science behind nutrition is changing constantly, so it's good to have someone decode the info. Katy fills us in on "pukie" the CrossFit mascot, as well as the reasoning behind the recent sale of CrossFit. Strap on your thinking caps and get ready to massage your cheeks. This is a funny, information filled episode.

JMS #22 - Normalizing Death with Death Doula Allison "Frankie" Danis
A lot of us are scared of death. But it's not too surprising. In the west, we have been ignoring it, trying to cheat it or have just been too scared to think about it for a very long time. That's why I love hearing the job title Death Doula. When we can start to normalize the things that scare us, maybe they won't be as scary any more. A lot of us my know the job title of Doula as someone who helps usher new life into this world. In keeping with the general idea of this title, a Death Doula helps people transition out of this world. There is a lot we are going to unpack with this episode. What exactly a Death Doula is, what kind of training is involved and the many ways this person can be of service. Through our discussion we talk about the rights of the dead and 9 things you should contemplate before you pass. We also touch on a few ways that we can ready ourselves for our own passing and the passing of others. This is a great talk about a subject that we may not be too comfortable with. But let's face it, we are all going to die one day. So let's talk about it and disperse the fear.
JMS #21 - Creating community and developing business ideas w/ Tracy Strash
I recorded this interview with Tracy a little while back, with the understanding that we wouldn't be the ones to break the "Big News." Well, it's finally here! And now we get to talk about her newest business venture! But on the journey to this "news", we talk about the experiences in Tracy's life that drew her to yoga and wellness. We talk about her new business opportunities, one of those being Lifestyle & Wellness Connection. A place where all people can access health, wellness and community. Tracy is a wearer of many hats. It's beautiful to watch an actualization moment happen in real time. I believe this is one of those times for Tracy.
JMS #20 - Discover your stylistic muse and your authentic self w/ Mahina
I have been wanting to get Mahina on the podcast since it was just a thought in my head. Mahina is an entrepreneur who decided to open a new business called Style Embodied, during a precarious time in our existence. We talk about this exciting new business which mixes energy work, life coaching and the search for your authentic style. This is very intriguing to me and an extremely unique mix of skills. We talk a bit about cultural appropriation and the colonizing of yoga. These are important topics to address and to keep front of mind as we explore new avenues of knowledge. Please pay respects to the culture of the knowledge you are finding. We wrap up our conversation with a talk on vulnerability, the individuals path to sobriety and how to strengthen your intuition.
JMS #19 - A soul nourishing journey through Mexico w/ Lauren Acton
Lauren Acton is a reiki master, sound healing practitioner and an amazing human. She has been on a healing journey which took her through Mexico for the past many months. In our talk today we chat about how to really love your ego. We hear so much about eradicating the ego, but it has a place with us. Our path is to learn how to love our ego and how to communicate properly with it. We talk about Thang and his infamous "non-bell" meditation. But we end up spending a bit of time on how success is personally defined. How are you defining it? Is your definition of success even achievable by your own standards? We base a lot of our expectations and goals around vocabulary that is defined by others. How do you define you? Have you defined you? What are you waiting for?
JMS #18 - Dawn Little Torres pt 2 - Who's checking the guru?
Welcome back to part 2 with Dawn Little Torres! We start this episode talking about the book idea that I'm working on, then dive into the importance of being vulnerable with your writing. Dawn is very inspiring and has a way of interviewing me as much as I'm interviewing her. I love it! We get to a topic both of us are pretty passionate about; who's checking the guru/ teacher? Are you able to ask this person questions without being ridiculed? Do you feel safe within their presence? We shouldn't just accept people at face value. Listen to your body and learn to trust your signals. We wrap up with a discussion on humanizing our teachers and ourselves as teachers. I deeply enjoyed talking with Dawn and feel like I gained a lot from this talk. I hope you do too.
JMS #17 - Dawn Little Torres Pt 1 - Exploring your healing abilities
When Dawn and I sat down to talk, I told her 2 hours is the longest interview I've had on so far. 3 hours later, that record was smashed. Welcome to my first 2 part episode!
In this first episode we talk about knowing how to work within your own practice, exploring your abilities and ask an important question; how are you talking to your higher power? Dawn is a wealth of knowledge and seamlessly maneuvers through many topics. Which is why we talked for 3 hours. We end this episode by talking about the book that she's working on, which sounds beautiful and gives me a boost of ambition to continue to work on mine.

JMS #12 - Carrie Hopperstad and her Teacher Training experience with Baptiste Yoga
Today on JMY, Carrie is talking with me about her experiences at with her Baptiste yoga trainings. Yoga teacher trainings can be transformative experiences, but they can also put people in dangerous positions, with pressure to not question the process. There is an unfortunate potential for predatory behavior in situations like this. The more aware we are, the more we can prevent it.

Instead of parceling my story together through many different podcasts, here is an opportunity for me to share a bit more about myself. As I begin to exercise my attempts at vulnerability, here is an honest conversation about some of what brought me to this point in life.

JMS #2 - Meditation & mindfulness w/ Thang Nguyen
Thang has played an important role in my yoga and meditation journey from the beginning. We spend quite a bit of time on the meditation side, diving into different meditative practices, how the ego shows up and how that's part of being humans. Towards the end we start to talk about the importance of community. As romantic as closing ourselves off in some cave in the Himalayas may seem, we need teachers and people in our lives to challenge us and to help us grow. We talk for 2 hours and could have talked for 2 more.
JMS #1 - The many healing hats of Camo Lionheart
Photographer, Dancer, Yogi, Reiki Master, Certified Breathworker and Sound healer. Today I have the pleasure of sharing space with my close friend Camo Lionheart.
